How to make cream, lotion and leave-in conditioner with Polysorbate 80

Polysorbate 80 just like emulsifying wax is an emulsifier that brings water and oil together. It can be used to make body creams, lotions, leave-in conditioners, hair mayonnaise and hair balms amongst other things.

One of the challenges of using polysorbate 80 is that if used inappropriately, it can cause the finished product to separate this is why in some products, you will find that the water would have separated from the rest of the lotion.

In this tutorial video, I will show you how to work with polysorbate 80 to make your desired natural skincare or hair care product. Pls enjoy!

Lemon oil

Lemon essential oil is one of the favourite ingredients in the natural skincare products made by Ene Naturals because of its amazing properties. It is an antiseptic as such treats infections and it’s vitamin C rich content makes it a powerful tool for combating free radicals, acne and dark spots. Lemon oil is a great disinfectant and also a good repellent against insects.

Its energetic and invigorating scent makes it a great mood enhancer while its disinfecting and antiseptic property makes it ideal for treating dandruffs.

It’s ability to clear dark spots is what makes it ideal for skin brightening as when added to lotions, enhances their ability for an even skin tone.

Lemon oil helps to reduce excess oil from the skin. However, it is not advised to be applied topically to the skin as it makes the skin sensitive or photo-sensitive when exposed to sunlight. It is therefore recommended that lemon oil be diluted in carrier oils before being applied to the skin.

Lemon oil is also not ideal for children under five years of age because of its sensitivity. Little kids have very delicate, sensitive skin that is not ideal for lemon oil to be applied on. So please when buying natural skincare products for your kids, look out for lemon oil and make sure it is not listed on the ingredients list.

How to detox your body

It is a fact that our body produces new skin cells every day and that when it does, the skin pushes the dead cells to the surface of the skin where it clogs the pores and causes our skin to breakout into pimples, rash and even darken our skin and cause uneven skin tone. It is a fact that our body sheds up to 500 million dead cells every day so you can imagine how much dirt is deposited on our skin daily. And that is besides our skin’s exposure to pollutants and dirt in the environment coupled with harmful weather and environmental elements. Need I say how important it is to detoxify our skin regularly?

I know that we live busy lives; I also know that the vast majority of us want brighter, clearer, beautiful and glowing youthful skin. But how do you achieve that if you do not take care of yourself? The solution? – Skin detox!

So, how can you detoxify your skin? Here are a few steps to skin detox and how to achieve naturally glowing skin.

STEP 1:

DRY BODY BRUSHING

Why do we need dry body brushing? For start, it is a good cure for cellulite which build up on our thighs and around our body caused by toxins in our body. Dry body brushing also improves blood circulation which sometimes can be slow in people. Dry brushing also helps to rid the skin of dead cells.

All you need is a long brush that has soft, natural bristles and always brush gently using circular motions. I usually begin from my feet and work my way all the way up because this is the best way to improve blood circulation while sloughing off dead cells that cause your skin dullness. If you are too busy to do this yourself, get someone to help you or go to a spa and request for a body polish.

STEP 2:

THERAPEUTIC STEAM

Steaming helps your body to get rid of toxins as well as open up our skin pores. Steaming also improves circulation while helping you to relax. Certain essential oils are known for their detoxifying effect such as rosemary oil and grapefruit oil. I also use lemon oil, orange oil and lemon grass oil. The beautiful thing about steaming is that it gets rid of toxins, opens up your pores and relaxes you at the same time therefore steaming is good for both the mind and body.

To steam at home, get a bowl and fill with boiling water, add a few drops of essential oils – sometimes, I brew fresh lemongrass and steam over it. In Nigeria, this alone cures fever and any related feverish conditions like flu and cold. I also shred lemon or orange peel into the hot water as well. Afterwards, I get a large towel, lower my head a few inches away from the hot water and cover my head and the bowl with the towel to trap the steam in. Remember that you only need the steam of the water so please do not go too close to the water and get your face burnt.

If you are too busy, you can go to a spa for a full body steam or facial steam.

STEP 3:

A PURIFYING AND CALMING MASSAGE

A purifying and calming massage will help release toxins and relief stress at the same time. My go-to essential oils are eucalyptus oil, lavender oil, chamomile oil, olive oil, vanilla oil, shea butter and peppermint oil. So you can make a creamy mix from this to use for the massage. I use natural vanilla oil because it purifies the skin. Here is my purifying and calming massage cream recipe:

1 tablespoon shea butter

2 tablespoon olive oil

2 drops peppermint oil

2 drops eucalyptus oil

5 drops lavender oil

5 drops chamomile oil

5 drops vanilla oil

STEP 4:

PURIFYING MASK

A purifying mask not only releases toxins but purifies the skin and firms up the skin. For this, I usually use bentonite clay, turmeric, cocoa powder, milk and water.

If you can do these religiously every week or twice weekly, you will have a gorgeous. beautiful skin.

I would love to hear from you so share with us some of your skin detoxifying tips.

Cheers!

How to make Nappy Rash Gel

Watch full video on YouTube handle: Ene Naturals – Nappy rash gel video

Nappy rash is very common in babies and little kids. It is usually caused by dampness or moisture on a child’s skin caused by wet diapers which when in contact with the skin, can cause irritation which is the nappy rash. This is why it is recommended that diapers are changed regularly and not left to be too dense before being changed.

From experience, allergy can also cause rash. For example, both my sons were sensitive to perfumed products like perfumed wipes, diapers or even perfumed powders or soaps and lotions. This is why I switched to natural products for my kids. Using fragrance – free products will limit nappy rash and common rash in babies and kids.

Rash can also be caused by drug reactions so do read drug interactions and side effects before giving such drugs to your kids especially antibiotic. Since rash can be harmless but irritant, you might have to wait till the dosage is exhausted before considering treatment.

While many topical products are out there in beauty stores, I have always relied on fresh aloe Vera gels and even vitamin C tablet to treat rash. This time around, I made a rash gel without the aloe Vera plant for people who do not have access to the plants.

The recipe for this DIY nappy rash cream is:

The aloe Vera gel on its own is perfect but since I am using the packaged one, I added glycerin because it helps to sooth the skin and with the aloe Vera gel, it becomes a double dose of coolant as well as moisturizes the skin and help to soften the skin. Natural aloe Vera has vitamin C and in its absence, I added vitamin C tablet which helps to clear the skin as well. Lavender oil is soothing and calming as well and helps to make the skin condition less irritable. It also has a soft, pleasant fragrance which makes this gel even more appealing.

To make the nappy rash gel is a rather simple process.

And viola, this is what you get:

Give this a try and tell me what you think.

How to make hydrating Body Butter

https://youtu.be/OfpWEqzhgg4

There are so many body butter recipes out there and it is so easy to make that it is the first thing most natural skin care enthusiasts learn to make. Body butters usually contain heavy natural butters like Shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter and natural oils as well. The healing power of body butters can not be underestimated because they are able to treat stretch marks, certain fibrosis, sunburn, spider veins, dry, flaky skin, to mention but a few. So body butters are great if you suffer from any of these or need intense moisture for your skin

But… yes, there is one 😀

Body butters contain high amount of natural oils, which though do not clog your pores but cause those of us who live in Africa to sweat a lot! From experience as a natural skin care crafter, I have had people complain all the time about body butters making them sweat a lot due to the African heat. If you have been to African – and I live in a very hot, tropical Nigeria where the sun shines all year round! My, you would give body butters a second thought as well. Secondly, we Africans predominantly have thick, oily skin hence when we use some body butters, we feel as though we’ve got grease on our skin.

So this was the reason why I formulated my own body butter. My recipe has one unique ingredient- water! With the addition of water, less amount of butters and oil and of course, with beeswax completely eliminated, what you get is a thick, creamy but light body butter that hydrates your skin and keeps you from sweating.

So if you live in Africa but still want to enjoy using body butters, then watch this video and start making your own body butter.

Am happy to hear from you and respond to your questions. So pls leave a comment below.

Secrets of Natural skin care

I have been making natural skin care products for almost six years now so I can testify to the goodness of natural products for our skin, hair and general well being. When I use natural skin care products for myself and family, I do feel very good about myself because I know that I am keeping toxins which are common in cosmetic products away.

One of the known gains of using natural products is their safety to our skin and the environment at large. Natural products are made from organically grown plants and produce that do not pollute the earth as their systems of farming contain less toxins and are earth-friendly. So if you are looking for a way to contribute to protecting the earth and the environment, then patronize organic skincare products. You will feel good about yourself.

Second benefits of natural skin care products is that they protect your skin and body from toxins found in chemicals used for cosmetic products. Natural skin care products are chemical free, preservatives free and are free of artificial colors and other by-products so using natural products will be doing your body and health a whole lot of good. We are at an age where strange diseases and all sorts of cancer is on the increase, many of which have been linked to toxins found in cosmetic products. We must protect our skin and bodies; and going natural is the first step in the right direction.

Thirdly, natural skin care products contain a whole lot of goodness and nourishment for our skin and body which I will like to highlight below:

Anti-oxidants (Natural protectors):

Antioxidants protect our skin cells from damage and are responsible for skin cell regeneration and repair. Natural oils and produce are rich sources of antioxidants which help to repair and restore our skin.

Anti-inflammatory:

Natural oils and other natural skin care ingredients have high anti-inflammatory properties as such have healing powers to heal our skin of damages like fibrosis, spider veins, stretch marks, swelling, sunburn and a whole lot. Natural skin care products have the ability to heal the skin even faster than any store bought cosmetic products loaded with chemicals.

Collagen boosters:

Natural skin care ingredients are loaded with properties that boost collagen in our skin. Collagen is the main structural protein found in our skin and body and vitamin C plays a significant role in the formation of collagen. Natural skin care ingredients are loaded with vitamin C that boosts collagen, which gives the skin elasticity and helps fight signs of aging.

Anti-aging benefits

Natural skin care ingredients are loaded with vitamins and minerals including being natural sources of Vitamins A & E. When you use natural skin care products, you do not need to use synthetic vitamins A or E or collagen because they are so full of nourishment that they fight wrinkles, reverse the signs of aging and makes the skin youthful for longer. Elasticity is what the skin needs to stay youthful and this is what natural skin care products give.

Free radicals eliminators

Natural skin care ingredients eliminate free radicals because of their rich source of Vitamin C and Alpha hydroxy acids which help to strip the skin of dead skin cells. Take pure goat milk for example, it is so high in AHA and is why it is used for natural skin brightening as it strips the skin of dead cells for a clearer complexion. Citrus based essential oils like orange, lemon, grapefruit are also rich sources of vitamin C and is the reason why they are used in treating acne and pimples.

Natural Moisturizers:

Natural skincare products have the ability to lock in moisture and keep our skin hydrated for longer. So whether we choose to use natural oils or to use natural sources of milk, our skin will receive intense moisture which means beautiful soft and shiny skin as against dry, flaky skin.

Natural skin brightening:

Natural ingredients like goat milk, lemon oil, orange oil, Jasmine oil, coconut oil and a whole host of others naturally clear our skin of uneven skin tone by stripping the skin of dead cells. With clearer complexion means a more even skin tone and brighter complexion.

Since I started using natural skin care products, I spend less time and money on makeup now because I no longer have to battle free radicals or be ashamed to go out bare faced. I love my natural skin so much that I hardly wear makeup. And I believe that this is important because many people spend more time and money on makeup than on their skin. Embrace nature, embrace your skin and you will have only yourself to thank.

Dark spots and sunburn treatment with oils: Spotlight on Ene Naturals dark spots removal oil

Contrary to belief, harsh skin bleaching products in tubes or other forms do not necessarily clear dark spots like age spots, sunburn or dark spots caused by injury or scars; or even dark spots caused by skin that has been burnt by bleaching products. What these whitening or lightening or bleaching products do is to amplify the damaged areas because while they lighten the rest of the skin that is not covered by dark spots, they are unable to clear the spots but make them even more pronounced.

But why is this happening? This happens because most of these whitening or bleaching agents actually do not go deep within our skin and under our skin to heal the skin from inside out. It is a fact that for long lasting results and for healing to occur, the skin must be healed from the inside out.

This is where oils are different. And how you ask? Because oils are rich in so much nutrients, vitamins and minerals, they are rich in anti-oxidants and Collagen, which helps cell regeneration. Meaning, the oils help the skin to create new cells by getting rid of the old one so that new ones can appear. During the cell regeneration process, you will find the dark, dry outer layers of the dark spots peeling away to reveal newer ones which are brighter and same color as our natural skin. This is why natural oils are superior to skin whitening or bleaching products when it comes to clearing sunburn or dark spots.

I recently developed a blend of natural, healing oils that treat dark spots, sunburns and damaged skin. In this blend amongst a wide collection of oils, you will find carrot seed oil, frankincense oil, rose oil, Jasmine oil, orange oil, lemon oil, coconut oil, castor oil and more. These natural oils not only clear the skin but will give one a brighter, natural complexion.

Nature takes its time, I must say because this is not a quick fix but when we allow the oils to complete its cycle of healing which is cell regeneration, you will be happy you waited.

The Ene Naturals Dark Spots removal oil is now available at our store on this site. Give nature a chance and you will never regret it.

Cheers!
